What happens after I tell my story to the Disability Royal Commission?

By sharing your experiences with the Disability Royal Commission you have helped the Royal Commission to:

  • understand the extent of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation being perpetrated against people with disability
  • learn more about when and where abuse against people with disability tends to happen
  • understand the real impact of violence, abuse neglect and exploitation on people with disability and our communities
  • make well-evidenced recommendations to the government for structural change in their final report.

It also means that disability advocacy organisations will have a larger body of evidence to draw from when campaigning for positive change in the future.

Find out more about what the Royal Commission does with submissions at their website.

It’s important to remember that the Disability Royal Commission is focused on long-term goals for change and justice but is not able to respond to an immediate need for intervention or support.

If you are in immediate danger you can call the police or emergency services on 000.

If you would like support from a disability advocate or counsellor, you can find more information here.
