People with Disability Australia (PWDA) has welcomed a 17-month extension to the Disability Royal Commission (DRC) into violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability, now slated to end in September 2023.

In a summary of responses to the Disability Royal Commission’s “Employment issues paper” published today, several respondents singled out Disability Employment Services (DES) and raised numerous concerns about their design and implementation.
“Despite some worthwhile initiatives, the evidence before the Royal Commission indicates that there has been and continues to be systemic neglect of people with cognitive disability in the Australian health system”, Chair, Ronald Sackville AO QC said.
